IRISH DANCE
In addition to being a dedicated high school student, I am a highly competitive Irish dancer. I have been dancing with my dance school, Scoil Rince Saoirse, for the past 13 years of my life. I compete both individually in a solo competition and as part of a team, known as a ceili. I compete at the World Irish Dance Championships, North American Irish Dance Championships, and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Oireachtas annually, as well as local competitions on weekends. Having received multiple world medals competing against hundreds of girls, I have maintained a world-qualifying position yearly since the age of 11, qualifying at both regional and national events. I have also traveled to many different cities within the United States and internationally to compete against the top 1% of Irish dancers in the world as a solo artist, then dancing at many team competitions on 4-hand, 8-hand, and 16-hand, winning multiple titles. I also danced on the Broadway show, Fainne Oir, along with my dance school. Featured in Irish Echo representing my school and heritage, I participate in annual events celebrating my culture during St. Patrick's Day, including as dancing at nursing homes and area schools. I perform at the Yonkers City Hall for the Mayor of the City of Yonkers annually and have received certificates of appreciation from the office of the Yonkers City Council for community spirit. I've also performed at parades and dinner dances in cooperation with my dance school. As a student dance teacher, teaching younger dancers in my dance school community, I have been inspired by my dance teacher, Ms. Deirdre O'Mara, to become a dance teacher in the future. To achieve this goal, I will be taking the 11th of 12 grade exams to become a certified dance teacher this year.
